Buddhist principles, karma?
This can be a bit of a trick question, so patient with me. I try to make some changes in life, especially in the form of attitude and conscience. I'll be 24 in few months and I live a life full of cynicism and sarcasm. I do not do well in traffic, I started smoking again (Blech) and I aggitated easily. My level of stress and anxiety is increasing every day at a job you hate. I try not to whine and complain, but appears to be compatible with my nature. Then I looked into Buddhism. I know the basics, I practiced yoga in the past. I sincerely believe that Buddhism is for me. I read "The Awakening the Buddha Within" by Lama Surya Das, and I'm absorbing everything I can. I guess my question to you all Buddhist practitioners, who seem so serene and complete. Can you point me in the right direction – Whether books, art, movies, websites, anything – that can help me understand and apply these lofty principles in my daily life more effectively?
You made a perfectly serious question deserves a clear answer. Buddhism offers the opportunity to live with wisdom, compassion, generosity and creativity. However, the historical Buddha has failed to these qualities by reading articles, talking with friends, or believe in the wonderful ideas. Buddha attained enlightenment through meditation practice. And specifically taught that belief in the beautiful "principles" of his teaching does not produce more pain. He encouraged us specifically to uncover the truth of his teachings through our own experience. So I encourage you to follow in the footsteps of Buddha and to begin a meditation practice every day. The best way is to establish a relationship with a Buddhist center. People can teach what you need to know, and paves the path. There are many centers worldwide and links below can help you find one near you. If you live in an area remote email me some suggestions. Best wishes for your trip!
