Cross Blessed Cross Blessed

The wedding service in the Greek Orthodox Church is an ancient and beautiful ceremony, held in its current form for many centuries. The wedding ceremony is full of symbolism and is a great experience if you've never seen one before, because it is likely to be very different from other weddings they have attended in Western Europe. The service is also very special because the couple did not want to another – and its presence in the church means that are truly ready to marry.

The beginning of the wedding

In most cases the guests who expect the groom outside the church until the bride arrives (a few sneaky wedding benefits go into the church early to secure a good seat). In summer, when most marriages take place, it is not unusual for ceremonies to be placed side by side for guests to attend a wedding often takes place around of those who have just witnessed a previous marriage who are preparing to leave. Wedding dress commentators among the crowd will have to consider and discuss at least two wives, and maybe even third time they leave the church – Negotiate! Meanwhile, the nervous groom waits for the bride at the entrance to the church, often holding her floral bouquet. He and they comply with their hands and fall into the same followed by the guests. Customers there is no separation of the guests of the bride and guests of the groom – everyone sits together and for small churches, many people would rather kept in a place where they can get a good view of proceedings.

Participation Service

The wedding ceremony itself consists of two parts: the service engagement and ceremony of the sacrament of marriage. The exchange of rings is the theme of service commitment. The priest blesses the rings by the maintenance in his right hand and making the sign of the cross on the head of the bride and groom. The rings are then placed on the third finger right. The "Koumbaro" partner swaps religious adviser, and suddenly sounds more between the bride and groom three times fingers. A series of rituals in the ceremony repeated three times and this symbolizes the Holy Trinity: God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Sacrament of Marriage Ceremony

This ceremony consists of several key elements. First, several prayers are said and then come to an end, the priest joins the right hand of the bride and groom. Their hands remain together until the end of the marriage ceremony, symbolizing the union of the couple.

Crowning

The bride and groom are crowned with thin crowns, or "Stefana" which are connected by a white ribbon and have been blessed by the priest. The crowns symbolize the glory and honor is conferred upon them by God, and ribbon symbolizes their unity. The "Koumbaro" then exchanges the crowns between the heads of the couple, on three occasions.

The common cup

The coronation is followed by a reading of the Gospel, which tells the wedding in Cana of Galilee. It was at this wedding that Jesus performed his first miracle, changing water into wine, which gave the married couples. The wine is given to the couple and everyone goes to drink three times.

The ceremonial ride

The priest, the son of the couple, who still use the "Stefana" three times around the altar his first steps as a married couple. The "Koumbaro" is closely monitoring the torque Stefana position. "At this stage, the couple (and any person standing nearby) is usually full of rice, which was previously given to wedding guests. The priest often uses the Bible, wants to give himself a type of protection!

The elimination of the Crown

When the ceremony ended Walk is the priest blesses the couple, the crowns are removed and then previously separated shook hands with the Bible, reminding them that only God can to break the union just completed.

Wedding Traditions

Most available information regarding orthodox Greek wedding traditions is a little outdated and contains generalizations that give the impression that some traditions are respected by everyone who gets married. Some of these traditions are described below

– Rolling a baby on the bed to encourage fertility.

– The release of money in bed.

– The pricing of the bride (and sometimes also the groom) at the wedding reception.

Despite these rituals are seen as traditional, fewer and fewer young people marrying today are because they are considered obsolete. Many people do not want Do not put your guests at the event for others to be able to see how much money pins of the bride, for example. Although money is still widespread and practical wedding gift, which is often given to the couple before the wedding day a third party or wedding reception for safekeeping. The Greeks who live in remote areas of the country and abroad, which naturally feel more strongly than do things the traditional way, is more likely to follow these traditions than those living in Athens, for example. Like weddings everywhere, Greek weddings are changing. At the time of writing, there is a way to increase married on an island and I recently heard someone say he was looking to get married on a motorcycle. It wisely advised by a friend "You had better first ask the priest if he wants to celebrate a wedding atop a mountain"!
