Is it permissible for non-Catholics to take holy medals?
Any Catholics here? My mother is Catholic, and gave me His holy medals (San Cristobal and San Antonio) after my apartment was broken into and all my jewelry was taken. I got two or three times, but the effort that are specially because I am not Catholic and not praying to the saints. I'm Presbyterian, so lately, when I go to church, I'm going with my mother (in a Catholic church). Am trying to decide if Catholicism is right for me. This medal is allowed to pray to the saint or saints? I went to Catholic school and remember learning a prayer to San Antonio, but they forget that the way it happens. My mom says I need not say a specific prayer, and swears by his medal for San Antonio find lost things. I not that I do not believe in saints, Catholicism is so different from the teachings of the Presbyterian Church, I am still trying to clarify what I feel about beliefs. I love my medals, but will do nothing sac-religious. Is there a rule about this?
Use a saint medals is fine as long as not worship the holy and, of course, Catholics do not worship saints. We share the belief of Catholics in the communion of saints with many other Christians, including Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopalian and Methodist churches. The communion of saints is the belief that all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven do not let this family. Everyone in heaven or on the road to heaven are saints, you, me, my late grandmother, Mary, Mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II. As part of this family, you can ask your family and friends living on earth to pray for you. Or, you can also ask the Virgin Mary, San Andres, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you. Praying to the saints in heaven, is simple communication, not worship. And the prayer of saints is optional not necessary. With love in Christ.
