In the UK, solar energy is still somewhat disconcerting for an answer to the problems posed by our dwindling fossil fuel resources. This confusion is not surprising, our climate of northern Europe is rarely associated with the torrid heat – and a quick look at our fields and the coast shows the large space wind and tides. However, recently, the increasing availability of solar hot water and demonstrate the benefits that go with it is the source of most of us to consider the installation of solar collectors. But to keep well abreast of advances in solar technology, we can obtain more information of Israel.

This may be surprising to some. Compared with the United States, etc., Israel is far from being the richest country in the world, so how can afford to be at the forefront of a technology that is widely regarded as expensive? Well, this is a way of highlighting how these technologies affordable is today, and in a country which is blessed by more than 300 days of sunshine a year – have benefited from solar water heating for over 50 years.

In the decade 1950 fuel shortages prompted the Israeli engineer Levi Yissar business of inventing a solar water heater, which became a commercial enterprise in 1953. In 1967, one in 20 Israeli housing units have been using the heaters and 50,000 were sold. Demand fell in the next few years, but resumed again due a national energy crisis in the 70s, pushing the Israeli government to enact legislation to ensure that each new house was built with a water heater installed solar.

Since then the country became the world leader in solar energy production – with the Ministry of National Infrastructures estimates that solar power saves Israel about two million barrels of oil per year. However, despite the copious amounts of sunlight and the use of time for solar water heating, Israel is also at the forefront of solar energy more efficiently – to the point of correspondence fossil fuels.

In an NPR report, David Faiman of Ben-Gurion National Solar Energy Centre highlights the problems associated with solar energy. "Solar energy is a form very dilute energy compared to fossil fuel energy. If you take a meter from the Negev desert sun rich … which will take about a year to absorb the sun's equivalent of a barrel of oil, and humanity is currently consuming energy at a rate of two hundred million barrels per day. "Despite of this, the work of Israel with photovoltaic technology center is to accelerate the process – the production of 1,500 watts of electrical power from only four inches four-inch solar panel.
